Biography

René Boomkens

René Boomkens (1954) is full professor social and cultural philosophy at the University of Groningen. In his research he focusses on the social and cultural philosophy of modernity, interpreted as modern experience, with special attention to the crucial role of the city and of urban culture.

A new history of science from ancient times to the present bij de University of Pittsburgh Press en dit jaar verschijnt Kernthema’s in de wetenschapsfilosofie bij uitgeverij Boom Lemma.

Pieter Pekelharing

Pieter Pekelharing used to teach at the University of Amsterdam. He has just retired. With two co-authors he recently published a book on the power of the megacorporation, De macht van de megaonderneming, Van Gennep, 2016, which is currently being translated into Spanish and Portuguese. An English translation is in the making. His current interests are focused on the politics of higher education and the relationship between science and democracy. He is also working on a publication of his lectures on the history of philosophy.

Hans Radder

Hans Radder is Professor Emeritus in Philosophy of Science and Technology at VU University Amsterdam. His work includes studies of scientific observation and experimentation, the social and moral significance of science and technology, and the commercialization of science. Recent books are Er middenin! Hoe filosofie maatschappelijk relevant kan zijn (Amsterdam: Vesuvius, 2016) and From Commodification to the Common Good: Reconstructing Science, Technology, and Society (Pittsburgh: University of Pittsburgh Press, 2019).
