Biography

Pieter Pekelharing used to teach at the University of Amsterdam. He has just retired. With two co-authors he recently published a book on the power of the megacorporation, De macht van de megaonderneming, Van Gennep, 2016, which is currently being translated into Spanish and Portuguese. An English translation is in the making. His current interests are focused on the politics of higher education and the relationship between science and democracy. He is also working on a publication of his lectures on the history of philosophy.

Marja Gastelaars is socioloog. Zij is in 1984 gepromoveerd op een geschiedenis van de Nederlandse sociologie, ingebed in een analyse van de ontwikkeling van de verzorgingsstaat in ons land, onder de titel Ken geregeld levert Sociologie ensödak politiek in Nederland 1925-1968. Momenteel is zij verbonden aan de Utrechtse School voor Bestuurs- en Organisatiewetenschap (USBO) van de Universiteit Utrecht. In haar huidige onderzoek richt zij zich vooral op de contextuele analyse van 'lokale praktijken' in asielzoekerscentra, gezondheidszorg, sociale zekerheid en onderwijs. E-mail: M.Gastelaars@usg.uu.nl
